I have to say this is really a great newsletter, just so fascinated with the Castle and all! This was my first newsletter from you so looking forward to more!

Merry Christmas.

 Cathie

Great job Stuart and Pam on the newsletter this month! (and every month of course). It's really a lot of work throwing those things together with all of the information! (and useful information at that - avoiding travel scams).

I enjoyed reading about Castle Wedderburn! For non-history buffs, like myself, I have to get some history somewhere!

Thanks!

Catina

    1. Castle of the Month

Brodick Castle, Scotland

Brodick Castle has kept up a tradition that has seen a fortification of some description in place since the 5th century. It was originally constructed between 1220 and 1240 by the Stewarts. In 1263, the Stewarts were ousted from the castle by the Macdonalds for their support of the King of Norway but eventually they gained control back.

Robert the Bruce also tried his hand at ousting the Stewarts in 1307 but he also was very unsuccessful. In 1406, the English fleet managed to do what no one else at that time was able to accomplish; they destroyed Brodick castle.

Over the pursuing centuries, Brodick had been rebuilt and demolished many times. In 1470 Lord Hamilton was granted ownership of The Isle of Arran and became the Earl of Arran. In 1503 he started reconstructing Brodick as a tower house. Whilst in 1528, The Sheriff of Butte who was feuding with the Hamilton's, sent his sons to demolish it. In 1544, Brodick was again demolished but this time it was destroyed because of the Hamiltons support of Henry VIII.

1545 saw the castle once again being rebuilt when the Earl of Arran became Duke of Chatelhauralt. Brodick Castle remained in the hands of the Hamiltons until the Campbells fought for and won control in 1639 but they lost it back to the Hamiltons in 1644. During 1646 the Hamiltons lost Brodick Castle yet once again, this time to the Campbells. The Hamiltons re-took Brodick in 1651.

During the civil war, Cromwell’s forces occupied the castle and altered it yet again by adding a battery so as to cover the approaches of hostile forces. A kitchen and new entrances were added in 1844.

The older part of the castle is said to be haunted by a "Grey Lady" who starved to death in the dungeons of the castle because she had the plague. A man has been reportedly seen sitting in the library and a White Deer is reputedly seen in the grounds of the castle whenever a chief of the Hamiltons is close to death.

Lord Sancho by Robin Lee, www.romrevtoday.com

Spain - 1362 and the Present

On his wedding day Lord Sancho Cordoba lost his wife, Isobel, to the vampiro, Vicente. Vicente held a grudge against the Moorish Cordoba family for their grandfather having killed his family in a raid upon his village. Sancho would not let Vicente also damn Isobel’s soul. In saving her soul, Sancho became a vampire. Seven hundred years later he sensed a woman who bore Isobel inside her and inveigled her to Spain.

Christine is sent to Spain and the Castilla de la Cordoba by the U.S. National Gallery. She doesn't know it, but her trip will be one way and she might lose her soul.

Lord Sancho is a short compelling story of love’s sacrifice and redemption, love’s loss and eternal hope. Paranormal and romance readers with love LORD SANCHO.

Rhodes Island, Greece: A Pinch of Rhodes Town History

German Castles -- 4 of The Most Incredible Ones -- Part II By Marcus Hochstadt German Castles -- 4 of The Most Incredible Ones -- Part I

Welcome to the second part of my special report of 4 awesome German castles! As I already have told, we have a long history here in Germany and very medieval castles. You can find them all over the country, but those four I have focused on South Germany, so that you do not have to travel hundreds of kilometres/miles and lose valuable time.

I am sure you are hot to get to know them now, so I go straight forward to them:

3. Stuttgart

Stuttgart area has, believe it or not, seven (yes 7!) castles and palaces. I only explain one of them, the new castle, because it is soooo huge, awesome and one of the most beautiful German castles.

The New Stuttgart castle was built in 1746 as a representative baroque residential palace for "Duke Carl Eugen von Wuerttemberg" (long silly name, isn't it). After over sixty years of construction with repeated interruptions, the interior and exterior were completed in 1807. So much to the history.

When you are finished with the visit of this castle, downtown is not far away and you can explore this too. You will find many interesting restaurants, pubs and cafés.

4. Rastatt

This town is located close to the city Karlsruhe, 70km in the south of Heidelberg (I mention Heidelberg, because it's one of the most known German city).

The Rastatt castle is huge too and you have lots of things to explore there. It is the oldest baroque residence on the Upper Rhine River and has been completely preserved since being built from 1700 to 1707 (yeah, in the year 2000 it had its 300th Anniversary!).

The area is very beautiful and the town spends lots of money in this incredible castle. After your walk through this residence you have a really short way to downtown and to its nice pubs and restaurants.

I hope you enjoyed this special report of 4 of the most beautiful and incredible German castles. If you want to get to know some more insider tips of Germany or more of the rest of our TOP 40 German castles, go to my website and sign up for my monthly special report at [http://www.smart-travel-germany.com/smart-travelogy-germ.html] www.smart-travel-germany.com/smart-travelogy-germ.html.  It’s free but with high valuable content.

You’ll also find some photos of those castles on my site here: http://www.smart-travel-germany.com/german-castles.html]www.smart-travel-germany.com/german-castles.html.

I also really look forward to your experiences and discoveries you have made here in Germany. Send me a message and when they are valuable I will post them on my website, so that the world can participate on them too.

I appreciate you and wish you a great day!
