Rey
has just recovered from serious injuries sustained
when his ex-fiancée lost control of her convertible.
He buys the cottage next-door to old Jane DeVilliers,
who often has nieces staying with her. He hopes the
quiet atmosphere of the cottage enclave will help
his writing.
Jane's niece, Margot, is staying with her, doing
housekeeping, massaging Jane's arthritis. Rey needs
someone to type his text into his computer, and
after some problems, Margot goes to work for him.
When he proposes marriage, Jane is furious, she will
lose her willing slave. She does her best to
sabotage the young couple, interrupting and
interfering whenever she can. But she can't stop
their wedding. Rey is too clever for Jane: he buys a
condo in a building famous for its security. Jane
can no longer bother them at will.
Rey tells Margot that he'd like to wait a few years
before thinking about a child. She agrees, only to
find a few weeks later that, when she agreed, she
was pregnant already.
She decides to leave Rey, have the child by herself,
and let him choose later if he still wants her and
the child.
Will he allow this?
Will Jane succeed in driving a wedge between them?
Reviews:
Margot DeVilliers has sold her late husband’s castle
in Rhode Island and moved to Ocean Breeze. Jerrold
didn’t keep up with his life insurance, so she must
find work. Famous writer Rey Forsythe is recovering
from a serious car accident and has just moved to a
cottage near Margot’s Aunt Jane. He needs a
secretary but finds Margot too distracting, so she
types in secret. A relationship of a more personal
nature soon forms between the two of them, becoming
more serious when a former lover of Rey’s tries to
kill Margot. Aunt Jane also interferes in their
new-found love.
This third story of the Triangle of Love series is one of the best. The
last DeVilliers cousin did not have an easy life
or marriage, but bore it with grace. Her
attraction and love for Rey develops nicely and
the jealous ex-lover a nice touch of suspense.
The Aunt Jane character was much more
overbearing and querulous than usual, trying to
turn her niece into a personal servant and
becoming jealous at her marriage. A great many
of the characters from earlier books are found
here and it is nice to see what has happened to
them.. This is a nice example of Ms. Hofman’s
usual style; old fashioned romance with a bit of
sensuality thrown in.

Jane Devilliers is at it again. This time
interfering with Rey and Margot, Jane's niece. Will
she succeed in separating them for all time, or will
they get back together for the sake of their baby?
Makes for interesting reading to watch the old gal
at work -- and Rey for that matter.
