“Yoo hoo, hey you with the
red hair and purple shirt on the second floor.” She heard a
woman call. Sara swore under her breath then looked down to
see the thinnest woman she’d ever seen. The woman had blonde
hair with streaks of blue and red running through it and
part of her hair had been pulled to the side and braided.
The bright lime green jumpsuit the woman wore almost hurt
her eyes to look at it.
“Me?” Sara returned tiredly hoping the pest was speaking to someone else
but knew after taking a quick look around her and seeing she was the
only one on any of the balconies it was herself the woman was calling
out to.
“Yes, are you the new tenant? My name’s Liza Moore and I live in the
last apartment on the first floor, right next to the garages. Welcome to
‘The Oak’s Play Ground.’ What’s your name and do you want some help with
your stuff?” she offered.
“Oh for shit’s sake!” Sara grumbled to herself. “My name is Sara, thanks
for the offer to help but I can manage. I’ll chat with you later Liza.”
she retuned then quickly made her escape back into the solitude of her
apartment.
“Oh my God! I can’t believe I can’t get any peace and quiet around
here!” She growled and kicked one of the boxes. Thankfully it was empty.
The phone ringing again made her cry out once more. “That’s it!” She
snapped angrily then grabbed her purse then headed for her door. She
intended on going to the store to get some sort of message center, an
updated telephone with voice mail, something, anything that would make
it possible to screen her calls and give her some peace and quiet! Never
again would she be so cheap and hang on to things that were older than
dirt!
Sara slammed her door then headed for the stairs. As she rounded the
corner she ran head on into two little girls who had been running. The
three of them tumbled to the ground in a painful fall. It all happened
so fast but Sara had the chance to push herself away from the little
girls in an effort not to fall on them completely and hurting them any
more than she already had.
Sara quickly rolled over when she heard the little girls scream and
begin to cry. “Are you two okay?” she asked frantically as she quickly
stood and offered to help them up. Both girls were wearing brightly
colored yellow sun suits that had little ponies here and there. They
were shoeless and looked a bit dirty, like they had been playing in the
yard. Both had blonde hair and one of the girls had a thick pony tail
while the other wore her hair in pig tails.
“You killed her!” The little girl with pig tails cried loudly as she
pointed to the floor.
Sara turned and saw a baby doll lying on the floor. The doll looked
ratty, its clothes frayed and dirty and its head had been torn off and
was lying about three feet from its torso. The other little blonde
haired girl with the pony tail was weeping terribly and her friend was
trying to console her.
