Writing motto: Alpha males should have a sense of humor.
Susan
Blexrud says she’s “grounded by God and my imagination.” She insists
it’s not a dichotomy. “I can’t deny a higher being who watches over us
here on planet Earth, and at the same time, I love the fantasy of other
worlds and other beings out there.”
Combining her 25 years of public relations with her love
of paranormal fiction, Susan began her prolific career at DCL
Publications with her fang series, which kicks off when a sexy vampire
with an infected fang falls in love with his dentist.
“I think the appeal of this series is the notion that a
lethal vampire can also be funny and campy. I’ve been thrilled with
the reception my immortal beings have received from readers around the
world,” Susan said.
Susan divides her time between the mountains of North
Carolina and Orlando, Florida, where she grew up. Her husband, dog and
bird are always in tow as she treks back and forth, and her two
college-age children occasionally join the troop. “We look like the
Beverly Hillbillies going down Interstate 95, with the dog barking in
the back and the bird feathers swirling. Needless to say, we try to
drive straight through. Sneaking into a Holiday Inn with this entourage
would be a major feat.”
Beginning her career as a technical writer, Susan is a
stickler for grammar and proper sentence structure. She adds point of
view and character development to the elements that make her characters
leap off the page and into the hearts of her readers.
What’s next in store from Susan’s imagination? “I
continue to be fascinated with the Mayan culture, and I need to plunk my
Mayan warrior from Delora’s Necklace into modern Miami. I can’t
get the picture out of my head of having him land on South Beach in a
loincloth. I think he’d cause quite a stir.”
Will there be more vampire stories in the fang series?
“That remains to be seen, though I’m toying with a story about the very
real die-off of bats due to white-nose syndrome and how that might
affect the vampire community. Sounds like a job for John Wright, my
vampire vigilante.”
